A different route into facial surgery
Dr. Nigar Ahmedli’s path to facial plastic surgery began at Brown University, where she studied neuroscience and art history as part of the Program in Liberal Medical Education, Brown’s combined undergraduate and medical education programme.
The two subjects approached the face from very different directions: one through anatomy, perception, and the nervous system; the other through proportion, representation, and the way people have understood the human form across cultures and time.
She graduated magna cum laude, and went on to the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha.

Training
Surgical training
After Brown, Dr. Ahmedli completed her residency in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in New York.
She then completed fellowship training in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Quatela Center for Plastic Surgery in Rochester, with advanced work across rhinoplasty, facial rejuvenation, and reconstructive facial surgery.

Dr. Ahmedli returned to Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, joining the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, where she served as Director of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
She was also Associate Residency Program Director, combining surgical practice with teaching and academic work.
The practice
How she came to the practice
Dr. Ahmedli came to Saman Facial Plastic Surgery already fully trained. She was fellowship-trained and board-certified, had directed a facial plastic surgery division, and had spent years teaching residents.
The practice spent a long time looking for a second surgeon. Many were considered and most conversations ended early. The question was never whether a candidate could operate. It was whether their judgment about what to change, and what to leave alone, matched the practice’s own.
Before she began seeing her own patients, she and Dr. Saman spent several months operating together: working through technique, sequence, and the small preferences that make one surgeon’s result recognisable. Two trained surgeons calibrating to a shared standard, rather than one teaching the other.
The practice does not offer its surgeons as alternatives to one another. The assessment, the technique, and the standard are the same whoever operates.

Facial rejuvenation has been a sustained area of Dr. Ahmedli’s academic work. Her peer-reviewed research covers deep-plane facelift technique, midface aging, jawline rejuvenation, and the aging neck.
Method
Her approach today
Dr. Ahmedli approaches facial surgery through detailed analysis rather than a predetermined template. The objective is to understand what is creating imbalance or aging in an individual face, determine which structures actually need to be addressed, and choose an operation that fits that anatomy.
Natural does not mean doing less in every patient. It means doing what is necessary without making the operation itself obvious.

Her work in facial rejuvenation draws on both her academic research and her surgical training in the anatomy of facial aging.
Rather than treating the face as a collection of isolated procedures, she evaluates the relationship between the midface, jawline, neck, eyelids, brow, skin, and deeper tissues to determine which areas actually require treatment.
The goal is a face that looks refreshed without advertising the operation that produced it.

Rhinoplasty requires balancing proportion, structure, breathing, and the individual features that give a face its identity.
Dr. Ahmedli approaches each nose in the context of the entire face rather than against a standardised aesthetic ideal. Technique is selected according to the anatomy and the change being requested.
Education
Teaching the next generation
Education remained a central part of Dr. Ahmedli’s academic career. As a faculty member and residency leader at Montefiore, she trained residents in facial analysis, operative technique, clinical decision-making, and the principles of facial plastic surgery.
Teaching, in her account of it, is not simply the transfer of technique. It is teaching younger surgeons how to evaluate a face, respect its anatomy, and understand why an operation is being performed before deciding how to perform it.

In the consultation room
Dr. Ahmedli’s consultations are detailed and collaborative. She wants to understand not only what a patient would like to change, but what is motivating the request and what outcome would still feel like that person.
From there the conversation becomes anatomical and practical: what can change, what should remain, and which operation, if any, makes sense.
